Finance Department

 

Responsibilities

Finance is responsible for the accounting of all Town funds, maintaining financial records and preparing financial reports.  The office handles accounts payable, payroll, pension administration, and benefit administration.

Other responsibilities include:

  • overseeing the budget process
  • assisting with the yearend audit
  • long term financial planning
  • handling insurance related matters
  • insurance and the issuance of bonds.

The Department provides budget monitoring and financial reports to the Board of Selectman and the Board of Finance throughout the fiscal year.

What is the town's fiscal year?

  • The fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30

How are education costs determined?

  • Bethany residents bear the full cost of the approved Bethany Community School budget.  Vote is concurrent with the approval of town budget.
  • Bethany residents share the cost on a proportional per student basis of the approved Amity Regional School budget.  Vote is by referendum separate from town budget
