Economic Development Commission

The Commission traces its roots to the creation of Industrial Development Commission in 1966 to study the old Airport Property.  The name was changed to Economic Development Commission in 1992.
According to the Bethany Town Code, the Commission “…shall have as its object research into economic conditions and trends in the Town.”  There are five regular members and two alternates who are electors of the Town of Bethany and who are appointed by the First Selectman for 5-year terms.

Mission Statement

The Town of Bethany Economic Development Commission (BEDC) is dedicated to a diversified, vibrant and sustainable local economy that enhances quality of life while preserving Bethany’s status as a public water supply source for the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. To this end, the BEDC aims to retain and support existing Bethany businesses by fostering a positive business environment; to recruit new, community-oriented businesses by providing information and resources that assist in the analysis of expanding into or establishing in Bethany; and to promote projects that aid development and growth, such as public/private partnerships. Through these efforts, the BEDC hopes to facilitate an increase in residential and commercial property values and to improve the town’s tax base.
