TITLE: Basketball Program Coordinator-Seasonal

POSITION SUMMARY
The Parks and Recreation Department of Bethany is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Basketball Program Coordinator to lead and oversee basketball activities for grades K-6. The coordinator will be responsible for organizing, planning, and executing a basketball program to promote community participation, teamwork, and physical activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reserve court space and ensure all equipment is available and in working order.
- Actively promote programs through community outreach and work to maximize participation in basketball leagues and events.
- Serve as the main point of contact for participants, parents, and staff regarding schedules, rules, safety protocols, and other program details.
- Assist in managing program budgets, tracking attendance, and compiling reports on program outcomes.
- Create league schedule for practices and games, build teams from evaluations clinic.
- Enforce league rules, maintain a high level of safety within the program.
- Be on site in the gymnasium during all league play.
- Inspect gymnasium for set up and safety concerns prior to game play.
- Recruit volunteer coaches, schedule coach’s clinic, observe, assess, and assist coaches as needed. Provides potential practice plans to coaches, if requested.
- Empower volunteer coaches to lead practice sessions focusing on fundamentals, skill development, sportsmanship and fun!
- Write a brief recap of games (scores and leading scorers) to be posted on social media and/or The Bethany Bulletin.
- Secure sponsorships from local businesses to offset program costs.
- The position entails hands-on involvement with practices and games among all age groups and skill levels.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATION
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in sports program coordination, particularly in basketball.
- Experience working with youth programs and community engagement is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead staff.
- Knowledge of basketball rules, coaching principles, and program development.
- Familiarity with budget management and basic reporting.
Certifications:
- First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment). Basketball coaching certifications preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE
- This position will mainly be held at the Amity Middle School, Bethany Gym
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (Time: TBD but typically 2-3 hours) and Saturday (Time: TBD approx. 6 hours)
COMPENSATION
- $3,000.00 stipend paid out bi-weekly for 13-week period.
