Dear Bethany Residents:
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Governor has issued Executive Orders that prohibit the Town of Bethany from holding the Annual Budget Hearing and Town Meeting.* The Quinnipiack Valley Health Department has confirmed that it is not safe to hold a large gathering at a meeting. However, it is vital that the residents of the Town have a voice in the budget process. *See Connecticut Executive Orders 7I, Section 13 and 7S, Section 7.
Please find herein the Call for what would normally be the Town Meeting but will now be a special Board of Finance Meeting, held on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. via video-conference. This includes the list of capital items, the budget, the mill rate calculations, and the general fund calculations. A version with more detail from prior years is available on the Town website at http://www.bethany-ct.com under Latest News.
Between now and Friday, May 1, 2020, residents can provide feedback in two ways: By calling (203) 393-2100 ext. 1100 and leaving a voice mail message; or By emailing TownOfBethany@bethany-ct.com. In either case please provide your full name and address, as your remarks are part of the public record, just as they would be at a Budget Hearing or Town Meeting.
Please note that the Town’s resources do not allow for public comment at the Board of Finance Meeting itself. All feedback must be received by May 1, 2020.
Please contact the Finance Director’s office with any questions about the budget process (not budget feedback itself): (203) 393-2100 ext. 1123 or email@example.com.
Sincerely and with best wishes,
Sheila M. Lane, CPA
